EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a revolutionary kind of psychotherapy that can much more quickly and most talk therapies reduce the effects of trauma in a person’s life. The process, simply stated, calls for the bilateral stimulation of brain hemispheres by moving the eyes left and right, or taping on one’s body on the left and right sides, while focused on a disturbing event from the past. In this movement, much like what happens in the brain during REM sleep, unprocessed memory on the right side (emotional side) of the brain moves over to the left side, where it can be reprocessed adaptively. Besides its use for trauma victims, it can also help addicts get to the root of their addiction and reduce urges to self-medicate.
